Candidate Statement
As your County Supervisor, improving the quality of life for you and your neighbors is my top priority. For the past 8 years I have worked to expand access to health care, improve emergency medical services, ease traffic congestion, enhance public safety services, reduce crime, support local schools, strengthen our local economy and create jobs, build affordable housing, and protect our open space and environment.
During this past 4-year term of office, my accomplishments include expanding health coverage and dental services; facilitating local road improvements and reducing traffic congestion at the Hwy 85/101 interchange; securing funding for pedestrian safety; initiating a policy to reduce electronic waste, harmful pesticides, and carbon emissions; leading the effort for improved disaster preparedness, funding disease prevention; and introducing legislation to combat the growing childhood and adult obesity epidemic.
As I continue to focus my effort on the health and safety of the community, I am reach out to each of the cities in the Fifth District. I value the partnership between myself and those I represent. When addressing issues of concern I include the public, for example, I continue to work toward environmental sustainability in our community and have launched a series of public forums on the subject. I have recently hosted several "walkability" seminars and will continue to support this interactive method for members of a community to evaluate their neighborhood for "walker friendly" aspects and to formulate a plan for improvement.
I have built a collaborative working relationship with cities in the Fifth District which has allowed us to bring more public service to residents including walking trails, parks, hazardous waste disposal programs, and support of community non-profit agencies.
I want to build upon the progress we have made and I respectfully ask for your vote on June 3, 2008.
