Candidate Statement

As your County Supervisor, improving the quality of life for you and your neighbors is my top priority. For the past 8 years I have worked to expand access to health care, improve emergency medical services, enhance public safety services, reduce crime, support local schools, strengthen our local economy and create jobs, build affordable housing, and protect our open space and environment.

With the failure of the term limit initiative on the February 5th ballot, termed out legislators are looking for jobs. One such individual has stated she will run against me in the 2008 Board of Supervisors race. I need your help and support to win this election.

Working to End Homelessness

I am delighted to have approved development of further actions that will clearly get to the heart of the many reasons one is chronically unhoused, and aid families and individuals to access services that will change their lives, and their futures. By adopting policies that boost the effectiveness of existing programs we not only ease human suffering, we make the best use of our investment.

Smart Energy

Sunshine in December is one of the benefits of living in California, and a benefit that I voted to put to good use as a means to save energy resources and public money. Photovoltaic power systems is one of the many ways I have championed energy savings.

Prepare, Respond, Recover

Fire, earthquake, flood, mass exposure to hazardous or communicable disease. This may seem like the list for a Hollywood action blockbuster, but it is actually a list of disasterous situations that have either taken place recently or are being prepared for in our community. Public safety is a core service of the County. My leadership in the area of prepare, respond, and recover has been on-going and effective.

The County budget for fiscal year 2008 is approved on time. Balancing reason with flexibility, vital services to the community are preserved and a sizable savings account for contingencies is maintained.
